Development priorities
Based on the university's medium-term and long-term development plan, the university plans to promote key development goals, including developing students' basic abilities, professionalism and cross-disciplinary employability through innovative teaching models, nurturing international high-ranking talents in medical services, biotech, high-tech industries and knowledge management, and continuing to expand the spirit of " what is taken from the society will be used on the society" so as to help disadvantaged students in learning. With current research highlights and advantages, we aim to develop the "comprehensive smart health care" to assist the school-trained R&D talents to establish the Research Service Corporation (RSC). In conjunction with the characteristics of the surrounding areas, we plan to promote research, development and industry-university liaisons, and fulfill the social responsibility of the university.
Development features
In order to become a first-class university with international features, the university continues to work on its core fields of expertise in medical research and biotechnology research, integrates high-end specialty in engineering and management studies, and takes advantage of the abundant industrial resources and research manpower of Chang Gung medical system and the Formosa Plastics Corporation. Furthermore, in line with major national policies, the university also works on relevant health care issues derived from the changes in the social population structure. In addition, the university incorporates resources from the government departments and local regions. As a research hub, the university promotes research in medicine, medical engineering, and healthcare management. Integrated multi-disciplinary and cross-institutional research and development, as well as international liaisons with industries all enable the university to attract domestic and foreign talents to join our research teams, innovate our research features and use research as a basis for teaching and production. In this way, we are able to cultivate good-quality high-level manpower, form a virtuous circle, expand research translation efficiency, and fulfill the social responsibility of the university.
Educational features
Through the "results-oriented and internal/external dual-circle curriculum design and management mechanism", each department revises the contents and suitability of the curriculum, examines students’ career path, and strives to optimize and continuously improve the quality of education. In conjunction of the Higher Education Sprout Project, the University has established a platform of "three networks" information systems for teaching and learning. Simultaneously, the University also optimizes the E-Learning and E-Portfolio systems, enhances the evaluation of teaching effectiveness and develops innovative teaching methods. In addition, the summer credit program and the advanced teaching and innovative contents inspired from the Higher Education Sprout Program are used to construct an interdisciplinary innovative and entrepreneurial learning environment. We will continue to develop innovative teaching models, enhance the basic core abilities of students, improve their English and programming language skills, and cultivate students’ employability, international competitiveness and mobility.
Research features
Centering on biotechnology research and medical studies, Chang Gung University set up research centers in medicine, engineering, management and other related fields. Furthermore, the university integrates research resources from an array of research teams to achieve the best results. In addition, we apply high technology to our two main research themes "cross-platform precision medical strategy" and "comprehensive smart health care". Our goal is to develop a comprehensive smart health care “iHealthCare” system, so as to continue promoting interdisciplinary, international cutting-edge advanced research and cultivating talents. To develop a number of interdisciplinary research centers is another focus of the university. We have been working towards the establishment of interdisciplinary research centers, as well as integrating and coordinating each college’s expertise in various fields, including precision medicine, healthy aging, disease infection, biomedical engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, management, decision-making optimization, and long-term health care, etc. It is worth noting that research objectives in various fields in conjunction with artificial intelligence technology serve to guide teachers to participate in relevant research and industry-academia cooperation. We expect that such an approach could improve interdisciplinary cooperation and add value to research and its application.
Industry innovation features
To sell intellectual property and market its ideas, we strategically divide the patented technology of the university into six key categories, including biochemical reagents, disease testing, smart health care technology, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things, etc. We continue working with the industries in technological parks in the north, extending exchanges with associations and corporate bodies, expanding network operations with manufacturers, participating in domestic and overseas exhibitions, hosting conferences to share technology, promoting patents and technology, adding value to intellectual property, and creating opportunities of commercialization. When it comes to industry-academia cooperation, we have been systematically promoting research and development results through the media to enhance our exposure to the industry. This approach could increase the opportunities for industry-academia cooperation. Through the "eight-school alliance of industry-academia cooperation platform", we take advantage of resources of each school to construct a joint technology-sharing and industry-academia liaison platform. The university executes the International Smart Biomedical Alliance Program, and establishes a new "industry liaison center" to link university-level research centers. Furthermore, the eight schools jointly promote technology research and development for the industry, as well as boost teachers' international cooperation and patent application. We aim to enhance the value of research and development, strengthen the competitive edge, and encourage cutting-edge innovation.
